Which languages Vireeli can caption

3 min readUpdated

Short answer

Vireeli makes captions in 35 languages plus Hinglish (Hindi written in English letters). You pick the language when you upload, or leave it on Auto to detect it. In the editor, Optimize can transcribe again in 83 languages, and Translate turns finished captions into 32 others.

Languages you can pick when you upload

The Speech language menu on the New reel form offers Auto, Hinglish (Roman) and these 35 languages:

English, Hindi, Arabic, Assamese, Bengali, Chinese (Mandarin), Dutch, Filipino, French, German, Gujarati, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Malay, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese.

Indian languages

Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Odia, Assamese and Nepali are all on the list. Captions come out in each language's own script, and the export loads Noto fonts for those scripts, so the letters show correctly in the video instead of empty boxes.

  • Hindi in Devanagari: pick Hindi. See Hindi subtitles.
  • Hindi in English letters: pick Hinglish (Roman). See Hinglish captions.
  • Mixed Hindi and English speech: pick Hinglish (Roman); English words stay in English.

More languages with Optimize

If the captions came out in the wrong language, or you want another script, open the Captions tab and choose Optimize at the bottom. It transcribes the video again in the language you pick, from a longer list: 83 languages, and Hinglish. Optimize is free; it replaces the caption text but keeps your styling and cuts.

Languages you can translate captions into

Translate in the Captions tab rewrites the captions in another language and keeps each line timed to the same moment of speech. Your voice isn't changed. You can translate into Bengali, Chinese (Mandarin), Dutch, English, Filipino, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Hinglish (Roman), Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Malay, Malayalam, Marathi, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.

Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Urdu can be transcribed but aren't translation targets yet, because right-to-left captions aren't laid out correctly yet. See how to translate captions.

The setting tells speech recognition what to listen for. A wrong guess doesn't just change the script: it can turn real words into look-alike words from another language, which is why picking it yourself is worth the extra click.

Getting the most accurate captions

  • Pick the speech language instead of Auto.
  • Record close to the microphone, with little background noise or music.
  • Remove background noise in the Audio tab if the room was loud.
  • Check names, brands and numbers before you export; speech recognition gets these wrong most often. See how to fix wrong words in auto captions.

Questions and answers

Can one video have two languages?

Speech that mixes languages, like Hindi with English words, is common and usually works. Pick the main language, or Hinglish (Roman) for Hindi with English. Captions show one language at a time; Translate replaces them rather than adding a second line.

Do languages cost extra?

No. Every language, Hinglish, Optimize and Translate are included in the price of the video.

Can I get English captions for a video in another language?

Yes. Transcribe in the spoken language, then use Translate and pick English.
