How to customise captions: font, colours, position and animation
Short answer
Open your short, go to the Style tab and click Customize. You can change the font, size, colours, highlight colours, outline, shadow, position, words per caption, emojis and animations, and see each change in the preview straight away. Click Save to My styles to reuse the look on your next video.

Open the Customize panel
- 1Open a short from your dashboard.
- 2Go to the Style tab. Pick the closest of the 40 caption styles as a starting point; see how to choose a caption style.
- 3Click Customize at the top right of the gallery (it names your style, like "Customize Hormozi 1"). The panel lists every setting of that style, grouped into Font, Colours, Caption and Animations.
- 4Change anything; the preview updates as you go and your changes save on their own.
What each setting does
| Group | Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Font | Font family, Font weight | The typeface and how heavy it is. |
| Font | Size | Text size, from smaller to much bigger than the style's default. |
| Font | Uppercase | Writes every word in capitals (scripts without capitals stay as they are). |
| Colours | Text | The colour of words that aren't highlighted. |
| Colours | Highlight 1, 2 and 3 | Colours for highlighted words. Different key words can use different colours. |
| Colours | Highlight key words | Turns the automatic key-word highlight on or off. |
| Colours | Outline, Shadow | An edge or shadow around letters, from none to large, in any colour. |
| Caption | Words per caption | How many words show at a time, from 1 to 8. |
| Caption | Position from top | How high or low captions sit in the frame. |
| Caption | Emojis | Where emojis show: Auto, Above text, or Off to hide them. |
| More options | Position from left, Keep punctuation, Break long lines | Sideways position, whether commas and full stops show, and the longest line before it wraps. |
| Animations | Caption animation, Word animation, Animate emojis | How each caption enters, how the spoken word moves, and whether emojis move. |
Change one line or one word
The Customize panel changes the whole video. To change a single caption, use the Captions tab instead:
- One line: make it Small, Medium or Large, move it, hide it, or add an emoji to it.
- One word: fix the spelling, split it in two, give it a highlight colour, or use Highlight everywhere to colour that word each time it's said.
- Hide a word from the captions while it stays in the audio, like an "um" you don't want on screen.
Save your look as a style
When the captions look right, click Save to My styles and give the look a name. It appears under My styles in the Style tab's gallery, so your next video can use your brand's font and colours in one click. You can save up to 50 styles.
Changed too much? The button at the top of the Customize panel puts the style back the way it started, and Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) undoes single changes.
Tips for a consistent look
- Use one or two highlight colours from your brand and keep them on every video.
- Keep the same position and size across a series so viewers recognise your videos in the feed.
- Pick a heavy font weight; thin fonts get hard to read when the video is compressed.
- Leave space at the bottom of the frame for the app's own buttons and text. See safe zones.
Questions and answers
Can I upload my own font?
Not at the moment. Choose from the fonts in the Font family list; each one also shows Indian scripts correctly.
Do changes cost credits?
No. Customising, switching styles and exporting again are free.
Can I move captions to the top of the video?
Yes. Lower Position from top to move all captions up, or move a single line in the Captions tab.
